FAQ

Grandstream questions

Why choose Grandstream?
Price. Grandstream consistently offers the lowest prices for reliable VoIP hardware. Their GRP desk phones cost 30-50% less than comparable Yealink or Poly models. They're also the go-to for ATAs, gateways, and paging speakers — product categories where other brands charge significantly more. For budget-conscious deployments, Grandstream is hard to beat.
What's an ATA and when do I need one?
An ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) converts analog signals to VoIP. You need one if you want to connect an analog device — fax machine, credit card terminal, overhead pager, alarm system, postage meter, or elevator phone — to your VoIP phone system. The HT812 is our most popular ATA: plug your analog device into the ATA, plug the ATA into your network, done.
What's a channel bank / FXS gateway?
A channel bank (FXS gateway) is a high-density ATA. Instead of connecting 2 or 4 analog devices, it connects 16, 24, 32, or 48. Hotels use them to connect room phones, warehouses use them for wall phones and paging, and businesses transitioning from analog PBX systems use them to keep existing analog phones while switching to VoIP behind the scenes. The GXW4232 (32-port) is our most commonly deployed gateway.
Can Grandstream paging speakers replace my overhead PA system?
In many cases yes. Grandstream GSC speakers connect directly to your VoIP phone system — page from any phone, set up zone-based paging, and schedule automated announcements. For offices transitioning from analog PA, you can also use a Grandstream HT ATA or a snom PA1 to bridge your existing analog speakers to VoIP. We'll assess your setup and recommend the best approach — see overhead paging systems for the full picture.
Which GSC speaker do I need?
If people need to answer back — a warehouse floor, a loading bay, a stockroom — you want a talk-back speaker with microphones: the GSC3516 for ceilings or the GSC3510 for walls. If it's announcements only, the GSC3506 v2 covers most indoor spaces. Outdoors or anywhere with machinery noise, the GSC3518HS horn is the one that carries. Tell us the building and we'll spec the mix.
Can I unlock doors from my phone system?
Yes. The GSC3560 and GSC3565 door intercoms register to your phone system like any other device — a visitor presses the button, your desk phones and mobile apps ring, and staff release the door from the phone, an app, or an HTTP API call. The GSC3565 also supports QR code entry. Both are IP66 and IK10 rated for outdoor entrances.
